RECREATION
Residents at Victoria Healthcare Center enjoy a wide range of activities and experiences as they are invited to participate in the Music and Recreation Department. With two professional board certified music therapists on staff, each resident is clinically assessed to ensure that programs are tailored and adapted to meet the capabilities and needs of each person. Our short-term rehabilitating patients and long-term residents both enjoy the benefits of our program. Additionally, every individual is visited regularly and engaged in a variety of tasks regardless of level of functioning. Our goals are to not only foster socialization and provide opportunities for fun, but also include steps toward symptom reduction, memory maintenance, and overall emotional support.
Variety is a key component of our music and recreation calendar. We understand that every person is unique and thereby has unique interests. Thus, we offer many choices to our patients that includes but is not limited to arts and crafts, music ensembles, African drumming, exercise/stretching, trivia, outings, pet therapy, live classical concerts, cooking, outside strolls and of course music, music, music! More importantly we focus on age appropriate tasks that help residents retain a strong sense of dignity in the midst of multiple challenges. |
Our training in a variety of disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, stroke and so forth allows us to be knowledgeable regarding the course of such illnesses and sensitive to the challenges they present. In doing so, it is our hope that individuals who interact with the caring staff of the Music and Recreation Department will feel welcomed, safe, understood and respected. |
